Miles Per Gallon (MPG)

I have owned a few Syncros. A 1.9 TDI powered 14" Panel van, a stock 2.1 petrol van and a 2.9 litre VR6 powered van.

1.9 TDI

The red syncro had 15" wheels and a whole lot of attitude. The engine was a 1z with a mechanical fuel pump. The mpg was good but not as good as some seem to get from a similar setup. I averaged around the 30mpg mark. This was a lot better than the 18 to 20 mpg from the AAZ that was in it before. All in all the TDI conversion is a great to drive and give acceptable mpg.

2.1 MV Petrol

I only had the 2.1 petrol for a few weeks but over that time I averaged around 18 mpg. The van was pretty much stock. The conversion was a Reimo with a full interior and westy pop top style roof.

2.9 VR6

The 2.9 litre VR6 is a thirsty beast. It is running through a stock 2.1 petrol Syncro gearbox (AAN 4.86 final drive) on 16" rims and 225/75R16 All Terrain tires. It averages just under 17 mpg. Not great. Maybe an LPG conversion is on the books.
